Getting back on the horse
Roughly 8 months after graduation, I want to try to take my goals into my own hands.
Despite wanting to be involved in research, for one reason or another I have been unable to get a research type position. That being said, I can no longer just wait around hoping for a positive response from an application.
While of course I will keep trying, I need to try to take matters into my own hands. It is with that sentiment that I begin my journey of attempting to publish research independently. I’ve been fortunate enough to have some mentors to run ideas by and consult, so I want to try my hand at becoming involved in the scientific process myself.
Will my work be novel and thoroughly explained from the beginning? Only time will tell. At the end of the day though, I can’t learn if I don’t try.
Thus begins my first goal for independent research: learning more about graphical modeling, Bayesian and MCMC extension, and causal parameters. I hope to create a proof of concept for the research idea I want to pursue, even if it is only a small start. I intend to use this log as a method of documentation, but also to keep myself accountable and actively trying to get to my dreams.
I hope this post is something I look back on as the start of a journey.
P.S. I am now an ASA member! I hope this is something I can use to meet practitioners and make connections.
